§ Mr. J. H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what steps he is taking to publicise adequately the value and volume of British aid, as a part of Western aid, as distinct from Russian aid, which is already being given considerable publicity, in those Commonwealth Territories, particularly in the newly emergent Commonwealth Territories, which receive this aid.
§ Mr. SandysIt is the constant endeavour of our Information Services in Commonwealth countries to disseminate information about British activities in every sphere, including the value and volume of British aid to the underdeveloped countries of the Commonwealth. I attach the greatest importance to this work.
In the current financial year we have made provision for aid to underdeveloped countries of some £180 million, of which about £160 million, or nearly 90 per cent., is for underdeveloped Commonwealth countries.
