HC Deb 01 March 1962 vol 654 cc160-1W
Mr. Hale

asked the Minister of Education whether he will make a statement on the nature of the discussions with the European Economic Community on the effect on education of entry into the Common Market; and if he will make a statement on its implications for the future of education in this country.

Sir D. Eccles

Her Majesty's Government have had no such discussions. But the existing arrangements for European co-operation in the educational field have recently been reviewed and strengthened by the setting up of a Council of Cultural Co-operation within the framework of the Council of Europe; and European Ministers of Education hold periodical meetings to discuss common problems, including in particular the teaching of modern languages.
