HC Deb 01 March 1962 vol 654 c167W
60. Mr. Leavey

asked the President of the Board of Trade what benefits the recently concluded 19-nation Geneva Cotton Arrangement will bring to the Lancashire cotton industry; and when the full terms will be published.

Mr. Erroll

The Arrangement contains provisions regarding restraint of imports of cotton textiles from participating countries which cause or threaten disruption in the domestic market, and provisions for improved access for exports of cotton textiles of less-developed countries to markets of certain participating countries. The text of the Arrangement was published in Geneva on 16th February, and I have placed copies in the Library. The text has been submitted to Governments for their acceptance and, if accepted, will come into operation on 1st October, 1962, for five years.
