§ Sir W. Robson-Brownasked the Minister of Labour how the settlement made with the dock workers employed by British Railways compared with that arrived at in the recent dock wages award.
§ Mr. HareRegistered dock workers employed at the British Transport Commission commercial docks will receive the increases agreed under the settlement negotiated in the National Joint Council for the port transport industry on 12th May which applies to all registered dock workers. The terms of the agreement were that dock workers' piece rates should be increased by 3 per cent. and their time rates by Is. 6d. a day with effect from 14th May, 1962. The agreement also provided for normal working hours to be reduced from 44 to 42 with effect from 27th August, 1962.
Other specialist grades employed in the British Transport Commission docks are covered by agreements made with the railway trade unions. The British Transport Commission reached agreement with these trade unions in April to increase wage rates by 3 per cent. with effect from 1st April, 1962, and to reduce normal working hours from 44 to 42 with effect from 24th April, 1962.
