HC Deb 05 June 1962 vol 661 c43W
62. Mr. G. M. Thomson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement on his recent discussions with Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the Prime Minister of Singapore.

Mr. Maudling

Mr. Lee Kuan Yew had talks with the Prime Minister, the Commonwealth Secretary, the Minister of Defence and myself. There was an exchange of views on a number of subjects arising out of the agreement between the Governments of the Federation of Malaya and the State of Singapore for merger in a Federation of Malaysia.

We reaffirmed Her Majesty's Government's support for the aim of creating a Federation of Malaysia and discussed with Mr. Lee its implications for Singapore.
