HC Deb 04 June 1962 vol 661 c26W
Captain Orr

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will cause the substance pagura to be reclassified in the Customs and Excise Tariff as molasses.

Mr. Barber

The classification of goods in the Customs and Excise Tariff must be made in accordance with the Brussels Nomenclature, established by the Convention on Nomenclature for the classification of goods in Customs Tariffs (Cmnd. 8220) to which the United Kingdom is a party. Pagura, which is a form of sugar extracted from sugar cane, is properly classified in heading No. 17.01 of the Tariff ("Beat sugar and cane sugar, solid") and, under the rules of the Nomenclature, cannot be classified in any other heading.
