§ Mr. Longdenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what plans he has for educating and training Africans to enable them to take over as administrators and teachers in Kenya and Uganda.
§ Mr. SandysI would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given by my predecessor on 19th April to the hon. Member for Leeds East (Mr. Healey) concerning administrative staff in Kenya. There are 3,897 Africans receiving training below graduate level, 24 Africans taking courses at Makerere College and 52 taking courses overseas, as teachers. Uganda now enjoys full internal self-government and these matters are the responsibility of the Uganda Government.
