Mr. Nabarroasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he is taking to determine the effect on prices and trading on the London Stock Exchange since April 1962, of the speculative gains tax provisions of the Finance Bill, 1962; and what estimate he has now made of the yield of this tax during tthe current financial year.
§ Mr. du CannIt is too early to estimate the effect on the London Stock Exchange of the speculative gains tax. There can be no yield from the tax during the current financial year because taxpayers' returns in respect of this year will not be made until after 5th April. 1963.
