Kaberryasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many civil servants, established or permanent and temporary, respectively, were employed in Colonial Office departments on 1st March, 1951, and 1st March, 1962, or the nearest available dates; and what was the total respectively of their salaries and wages as paid on those dates.
§ Mr. SandysOn 1st April, 1951, there were in the Colonial Office 1,021 established staff and 641 temporary. Salaries and wages in the preceding financial year totalled approximately £840,000. The corresponding figures for staff in 1962 were 543 and 325 respectively; and that for salaries and wages was about £820,000.
