§ Mr. C. Ian Orr-EwingUnder a standing arrangement with the Shipping Federation a few R.N. officers serve for short periods, in a supernumerary capacity, in merchant ships in order to obtain experience of day-to-day work in the Merchant Navy. In addition, since 1948, an officer appointed to the Royal Yacht has acted part-time as Sailing Master of "Bluebottle" and will now act in a similar capacity in "Bloodhound". Two 137W ratings, also appointed to the Royal Yacht, are at present assisting in the maintenance and running of this vessel.
