HC Deb 04 July 1962 vol 662 cc50-1W
68. Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Secretary of State for War what reductions have been made in the numbers of guardsmen occupied in the guarding of Buckingham Palace during the last five years.

Mr. Profumo

Until October, 1959, the Buckingham Palace Detachment of the Queen's Guard consisted of 30 all ranks, of whom 24 were Guardsmen, reduced to 21 all ranks, including 15 Guardsmen, when the Court was not in residence. Since that date it has consisted of 21 all ranks throughout the year.
