HC Deb 28 February 1962 vol 654 c158W
Mr. McKay

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what were the total benefits for the financial year 1960–61 paid by National Insurance only, including death grants, guardians' allowances, and full maternity payments; what was the balance left after extracting the total basic benefits of 50s. for the chief beneficiaries; and what percentage this was of the total benefits paid.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

If the hon. Gentleman would be good enough to explain the meaning of the latter part of his Question, I will endeavour to answer it. The total value of benefits paid in the financial year 1960–61 out of the National Insurance Fund was £935 million.
