HC Deb 27 February 1962 vol 654 c124W
Mr. R. Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware of the activities of the Aden Ministry of Labour in assisting in the establishment of a staff trade union in opposition to a registered trade union, namely, the General and Port Workers' Union; and what were the reasons for such activities in view of the fact that the established trade union is affiliated to the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.

Mr. Maudling

The Aden Registrar of Trade Unions has issued a registration certificate to a body of port workers calling themselves the Cowasjee Employees' Union. He acted in accordance with the law of the Colony and with due regard to the principle laid down in Article 2 of the International Labour Convention on Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize.
