Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make a further statement about representation from the Coastal Strip at the coming Conference on Zanzibar and the Coastal Strip.

Mr. Maudling

Three delegations will take part in the Conference beginning on 8th March on the future of the 1895 Agreement between Her Majesty's Government and the Sultan of Zanzibar relating to the Coastal Strip. The delegations will be composed as follows:—

Coastal Strip delegation—The 6 Constituency Elected Members in the Kenya legislature from the Strip, with the Constituency Elected Member for the Bajun lands and Mr. Alamoody, and Arab National Member.

Kenya Colony and Zanzibar delegations—8 Elected Members each from the Kenya and Zanzibar legislatures.

Each delegation will be allowed to nominate two advisers. As regards the Coastal Strip delegation, the delegates supporting the Mwambo United Front will be free to choose one adviser and the remaining delegates the other.
