HC Deb 26 February 1962 vol 654 cc108-10W
Mr. Channon

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the average waiting time for a married quarter for soldiers in Germany; how many applications are outstanding; and what steps his Department are taking to ensure an adequate number of these quarters.

Mr. Profumo

The waiting time depends on the number of quarters available in each garrison and the priority given to a family on account of the husband's rank and service, the number of children and the length of time the family has been separated. It would not be practicable to compute an average waiting time. There are now 4,960 applications outstanding for quarters in Germany, of which some 2,900 are from families occupying other accommodation there. About 8,000 more quarters are to be constructed over the next two years, at a rate of about 300 a month.
