§ Mr. Iremongerasked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement about the experimental closure of the gaps in the central reservation on Eastern Avenue between Gants Hill and Ley Street, Ilford; and what further action in this respect he proposes to take 81W there and elsewhere along Eastern Avenue and Woodford Avenue.
§ Mr. MarplesThe experimental closure of the gaps in the central reservation on Eastern Avenue between Gants Hill and Springfield Drive has been followed by a significant reduction in the number of accidents. I therefore propose to make it permanent. Further closures will shortly be made along the section of the road between Wanstead High Street and Redbridge Lane. Along Woodford Avenue experimental closures will be made of most of the gaps between Gants Hill and Chigwell Road. Further measures on both roads are under discussion with the local authorities concerned.
