HC Deb 22 February 1962 vol 654 c67W
59. Mr. Grey

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) what number of applications for assistance under the Local Employment Act has been made and approved in the various employment exchange areas covering the Durham constituency;

(2) what number of applications for assistance under the Local Employment Act has been refused in the various employment exchange areas covering the Durham constituency.

Mr. Erroll

The Durham Employment Exchange area is not a development district: assistance under the Local Employment Act is therefore not available in this part of the hon. Member's constituency. For the Haswell and Houghton-le-Spring areas, which cover most of the remainder of the constituency, applications for financial assistance have been received from five concerns, of which one has been offered assistance; one application has been refused and three applications are under consideration. In addition, the Board of Trade have built two factories in the area.
