HC Deb 20 February 1962 vol 654 c38W
Sir W. Robson Brown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the procedure adopted, and statistics obtained, to establish the national productivity figures.

Sir E. Boyle

The increase in the total production of the economy as a whole is measured by taking the percentage change in the figures of gross domestic product at factor cost at constant prices published in the National Income White Paper, the National Income Blue Book and (quarterly) in the Monthly Digest of Statistics. The figure so obtained is adjusted for any change in the total working population, less the numbers wholly unemployed, to arrive at the change in average productivity per head.
