HC Deb 20 February 1962 vol 654 cc19-20W
28. Mr. Randall

asked the President of the Board of Trade, in view of the largest percentage increase of unemployment in the northern region during the last twelve months as compared with other regions, what success he has had in the northern region in assisting the unemployed to find suitable employment under his policy of jobs in prospect.

Mr. Erroll

In the twelve months ended 30th June, 1961, the latest period for which we have reliable information, 108 industrial buildings comprising 3½ million square feet and estimated to provide 3,600 jobs were completed in the Northern Region. At that date 99 industrial buildings comprising over 5 million square feet and to provide over 9,000 jobs were under construction in the region.
