HC Deb 14 February 1962 vol 653 cc153-4W
17. Mr. Hale

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the increasing danger to pedestrians seeking to cross the road in newly appointed one-way streets where three or four lines of fast traffic are permissible; and what steps he proposes to take to provide crossings in such streets as Pall Mall and Tottenham Court Road.

Mr. Marples

No. The pedestrian casualty figures have not increased with one-way schemes. During the first six months of the Tottenham Court Road scheme, pedestrian casualties were 30 per cent. lower than in the same six months of the previous year.

One extra crossing place is to be provided in Pall Mall, one in Tottenham Court Road and one in High Holborn.
