HC Deb 14 February 1962 vol 653 cc146-7W
68. Mr. Fisher

asked the Minister of Transport what plans he has for the extension of the M.1 northwards to Manchester.

Mr. Hay

From a point near the present northern terminal of the M.1 another motorway, the M.6 will run northwestwards, through the Midlands to Lancashire, passing about 10 miles to the west of Manchester. Seventy-eight miles of this between Dunston in Staffordshire and Preston in Lancashire is already under construction and should be completed in the Autumn of 1963. The statutory processes for the section between Dunston and the M.1 are being completed as quickly as possible.
