§ Sir H. Legge-Bourkeasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can announce his decisions on the applications for increased import duties on lettuce, new potatoes and dried peas.
§ Mr. ErrollThe Government have given the most careful consideration to these three applications. Taking into account all the circumstances, they have come to the conclusion that the duty on lettuce imported during March and April should be increased from 20s. to 30s. per cwt., and the necessary Order is being laid before the House today. They have decided that an increase in the duties on new potatoes and dried peas would not be justified, and these applications have therefore been rejected.
