§ Dr. Strossasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs when he proposes to list cadmium fumes and cadmium installations under the supervision of the Alkali Inspectorate; and whether he will make a statement of the present position and his future plans in this respect.
§ Mr. RipponFumes containing cadmium and its compounds emitted from zinc works have been covered by the Alkali Act since 1939. Since then a small but important cadmium industry has developed and my right hon. Friend is considering the desirability of bringing it formally under the Act. Meanwhile the Inspectorate with the industry's co-operation is ensuring that emissions from cadmium works do not exceed safe limits.
