§ Mr. SharplesAt our request the traffic authorities have considerably modified the original proposal which would have274W involved the destruction of the southern defences, including the gateway, of the site of a Roman Station. In return we have accepted, subject to prior archaeological examination and recording, a modified scheme which affects only a very small portion of this buried site. Arrangements are being made for the preservation of any archaeological finds.
