HC Deb 21 December 1962 vol 669 c257W
Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations how many civil servants in his Department over the past 10 years, giving the ranks, went within two years of retirement or resignation to other jobs and sought permission within the ruling of paragraph 5 of Command Paper No. 5517, specifying which subsection of that paragraph was involved and the firms involved in each case.

Mr. Tilney

Four; one Permanent Under-Secretary of State and three High Commissioners. The appointments in question do not appear to have fallen within any particular subsection of paragraph 5 of Command No. 5517. Approval was sought, and granted, purely as a matter of general propriety. The firms involved were:

  • Rio Tinto Co. Ltd.,
  • W. J. Fraser & Co. Ltd.,
  • Automatic Telephone and Electric Co. Ltd.,
  • Inchcape & Co. Ltd.,
  • Power Securities Corporation Ltd.,
  • Guest, Keen & Nettlefolds (Pakistan) Ltd.,
  • Biddle Sawyer & Co. Ltd.,
  • Bank of Adelaide.
