§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThe U.N.E.S.C.O. publication "Basic Facts and Figures" gives the numbers of those who are described as obtaining degrees and diplomas—pre-university, university and post-graduate. The figures given in the latest edition for the countries referred to are France 19,493 in 1958; Italy 20,379 in 1956; West Germany 30,960 in 1957.
