HL Deb 20 December 1962 vol 245 cc1313-4WA
THE EARL OF HARROWBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the approximate date of erection of buildings which are to be included in a policy of slum clearance, not taking into account any slum clearance rendered necessary for exceptional reasons.

LORD HASTINGS

Houses are classed as slums not because of their age but because of their physical condition, in accordance with the tests prescribed by Section 4 of the Housing Act, 1957; but it is probably true to say that most of the houses now being demolished under slum clearance programmes are more than 100 years old.

House adjourned at twenty-two minutes before seven o'clock for the Christmas Recess.
