THE EARL OF HARROWBYasked Her Majesty's Government:
What is the approximate date of erection of buildings which are to be included in a policy of slum clearance, not taking into account any slum clearance rendered necessary for exceptional reasons.
§ LORD HASTINGSHouses are classed as slums not because of their age but because of their physical condition, in accordance with the tests prescribed by Section 4 of the Housing Act, 1957; but it is probably true to say that most of the houses now being demolished under slum clearance programmes are more than 100 years old.
House adjourned at twenty-two minutes before seven o'clock for the Christmas Recess.
