HC Deb 20 December 1962 vol 669 cc232-3W
79. Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is aware that some residents of Lyon Park Avenue, Wembley, are liable to have their gardens flooded when the Wembley Brook overflows and that improvement has been under discussion between the authorities concerned for about five years, but that nothing has been done and no date has yet been given for the work to start; and if he will have inquiries made to find the cause of the delay.

Mr. Scott-Hopkins

No. The Middlesex County Council which has permissive powers to carry out improvement works on these watercourses, is an independent local authority and my right hon. Friend has no power to tell it what priority it should give its works. I understand that it is considering the possibility of undertaking remedial works on the Wembley Brook as part of its major comprehensive proposals for the River Brent system.
