45. Mr. Ronald Bell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the amount by which the Customs revenue of the United Kingdom would be reduced by the accession of the United Kingdom to the Treaty of Rome and the consequent reduction of tariffs levied here on imports from Common Market countries.

It is estimated that complete removal of the protective duties on imports from Common Market countries would reduce the revenue yield of these duties by about £40 million.
