HC Deb 19 December 1962 vol 669 c190W
Brigadier T. Clarke

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty what public funds have been paid to Vickers Armstrong for plant extension schemes to allow for the building of nuclear submarines.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

The Admiralty share of capital expenditure amounts to just over £1 million. This includes about £370,000 spent on equipment which remains exclusively Admiralty property.

Brigadier Clarke

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty if he will consider building nuclear submarines in Her Majesty's Dockyards in view of the facilities available and increased security.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

Our building programme beyond the third nuclear submarine ordered last week from Messrs. Vickers is not yet settled.
