§ 54. Mr. Gowerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will take steps to ensure fuller protection and compensation for traders dispossessed by the implementation of schemes for the rebuilding of shopping areas; and if he will make a statement.
§ Sir K. JosephExisting legislation already provides both for compensation to displaced traders, and, in comprehensive development area schemes, that so far as is practicable they should be offered reasonable alternative accommodation.
I am anxious that traders displaced by redevelopment who want to reestablish themselves in a trading position, not necessarily in the redevelopment area itself, should be given every help and encouragement to do so and I hope to issue further advice to local authorities on this aspect of redevelopment.
