Mr. K. Robinson

asked the Minister of Health how many vacancies for student nurses and qualified nurses there were at the most recent date for which figures are available.

Mr. Powell

For nurses and midwives together I understand that 6,632 vacancies for students and pupils and 9,060 for trained staff were current at local offices of the Ministry of Labour in mid-November. These figures were all fields of employment, not only the National Health Service.

asked the Minister of Health (1) whether he will state the percentage increase or decrease during the 12 months ending 30th September, 1962, in the numbers of whole-time and part-time nursing staff for each of the regional hospital board areas;

(2) whether he will give the number of whole-time and part-time nursing staff, respectively, in each of the regional
