§ 74. Mr. Wolrige-Gordonasked the Minister of Labour why the latest figures available to him of unemployment in the North-East of Scotland should be dated mid-1961; and if he will propose new measures to alleviate the decline in employment there when the mid-1962 figures become available to him.
§ Mr. WhitelawI think my hon. Friend is under a misapprehension. Figures for insured employees are compiled annually, but unemployment figures are available every month; these enable me to keep a continuous watch on the local employment situation. As regards new measures, I would refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friend's reply to his Question on 12th December.
