HC Deb 12 December 1962 vol 669 c62W
Mr. Owen

asked the Minister of Labour why disabled trainees, in training centres under his Department, have been refused an increased allowance, which has been granted to trainees in other Government training centres; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Whitelaw

The increase in allowances to men in Government Training Centres was designed to encourage men becoming redundant in the coalmining and railway industries to take up a course of training instead of unskilled work. My right hon. Friend is, however, considering whether there are other grounds for increasing the allowances at the residential centres.
