HC Deb 11 December 1962 vol 669 cc39-40W
Mr. Boyden

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will take steps to ensure that building societies more readily lend money to owner-occupiers who wish to buy either older houses or newly-built houses of unconventional design.

Sir K. Joseph

Most building societies are, I believe, perfectly willing to finance the purchase of older houses where the houses are sound investments and so far as their funds permit.

Nor am I aware that in general they are unwilling to make advances on newly-built houses of unconventional design, although they may take a conservative view of the value of such houses.
