§ Mr. Boydenasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will take steps to ensure that building societies more readily lend money to owner-occupiers who wish to buy either older houses or newly-built houses of unconventional design.
§ Sir K. JosephMost building societies are, I believe, perfectly willing to finance the purchase of older houses where the houses are sound investments and so far as their funds permit.
Nor am I aware that in general they are unwilling to make advances on newly-built houses of unconventional 40W design, although they may take a conservative view of the value of such houses.
