HC Deb 10 December 1962 vol 669 cc24-5W
Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for War how many officers of Her Majesty's Forces have been seconded to his Department over the past 10 years; how many of those, who, under his regulations, were required to notify him, have, on resignation or retirement, joined industrial or commercial enterprises; and to what extent restraint is exercised upon those officers upon leaving his service.

Mr. Profumo

During the last 10 years 13 military officers employed at War Office headquarters have had their applications approved to take up posts with industrial or commercial enterprises within two years of resignation or retirement from the Service.

One application from a military officer in this category has been refused. All military officers on leaving the Army are required to sign a Declaration drawing their attention to the Official Secrets Acts, and in particular to the fact than the unauthorised communication of information acquired during service to any person after leaving the Service would render them liable to prosecution.
