HC Deb 05 December 1962 vol 668 c194W
106. Mr. Clark Hutchison

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty whether he will consider adjusting and bringing forward the naval building programme so as to assist United Kingdom shipbuilding yards, and take up the slack which at present exists in them.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

Proposals have been made that the naval shipbuilding programme should be accelerated in order to help the shipbuilding industry in its present difficulties. We are considering the suggestion, in collaboration with other Departments concerned, but it raises difficulties and the scope for acceleration cannot be large.
