78. Commander Pursey

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the number of boys and girls, respectively who left school in the Hull area at the end of the summer term; how many are still unemployed; and what steps his Department is taking to provide employment for these unemployed teen-agers.

Mr. Hare

1,777 boys and 2,020 girls; of these, 56 boys and 35 girls were unemployed on 12th November. The Youth Employment Service is making every effort to find them suitable jobs.

79. Commander Pursey

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the latest unemployment figure for the Hull area; how this figure compares with the previous month and with that of November 1961; and what steps his Department is taking to check the increase of unemployment in the area.

4,682 at 12th November compared with 4,317 at 15th October and 2,930 at 13th November, 1961. My local officers will continue to try to find other work for those unemployed.
