HC Deb 05 December 1962 vol 668 c202W
113. Captain Litchfield

asked the Minister of Aviation what steps he is taking to reduce the noise of helicopters licensed to operate services over or near residential areas.

Mr. Amery

All practicable steps have already been taken with current civil helicopters to reduce the noise caused to residential areas. In the London area helicopter routes are confined as far as possible either to the river or over open spaces, and they are also kept as high as practicable.

Any future designs will benefit from the work sponsored by my Department on the development of quieter jet engines. We shall shortly be giving guidance to the firms developing helicopters on the noise levels likely to be acceptable for city centre operations.
