HC Deb 05 December 1962 vol 668 c204W
Mr. Prior

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what the annual cost of administering the fertilisers subsidy is; and how many civil servants are employed on it.

Mr. Scott-Hopkins

The cost (i.e. salaries plus travel, overheads, etc.) of the administration of the fertiliser subsidy in the United Kingdom for the financial year 1961–62 is estimated to have been approximately £275,000. Very few staff are employed exclusively on the administration of the subsidy but it is estimated that the aggregate time was equivalent to that of about 190 full-time civil servants.
