§ Sir K. JosephThe first steps in speeding up slum clearance depend not so much on overcoming technical problems as on making the best use of the knowledge and resources we already have. The Northern Housing Office will be of immediate assistance to the local authorities by helping them to plan their housing programmes so that there is continuity of work for the builders. It will also be a source of advice on the develop-160W ment and application of new methods of construction which can be expected to speed up the output of houses.
