asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the proportions of Government expenditure compared to the national income in 1951 and 1961.

The proportion of central and local government expenditure to the gross national product at factor cost was 40.7 per cent. in 1951 and 38.7 per cent. in 1961.
