HC Deb 03 December 1962 vol 668 cc129-30W
73. Sir N. Hulbert

asked the Minister of Aviation if he will make a statement on the progress made by the Blind Landing Experimental Unit at Bedford.

Mr. Amery

Over 10,000 safe landings have now been made with the blind landing system evolved at the experimental unit at Bedford.

The system is coming into use operationally in the Royal Air Force V bombers and Argosies and is also planned for the Belfast transport aircraft. Experimental orders have been placed by American and French interests.

I am now discussing with the manufacturers arrangements to install a civil version of the system in the Trident and V.C.10.
