§ Mr. R. A. ButlerI am informed that the Leaders of the United National Independence Party are unwilling to meet my advisers since they are of130W opinion that a decision has already been taken as to the nature of a future association between Northern and Southern Rhodesia. I would like however to make clear as I have on a number of occasions that no conclusions will be reached as to possible forms of future association between the territories until I have received and considered my advisers' report. The position of Her Majesty's Government remains as I stated it in the debate on 8th May. I sincerely hope therefore that all points of view will be fully and freely expressed to my advisers before they report to me.
§ Mr. Dugdaleasked the First Secretary of State whether he has considered the protest made by the African Warders Association that their members are being instructed not to vote for United National Independence Party candidates at the forthcoming elections; and whether these instructions were issued with his authority.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerI am not aware of any such instructions nor have the Governor or myself received any protest from the Association.
