asked the Minister of Education what factors have caused the substantial reduction in the increase in mathematics and science graduates during 1960-61 compared with the increase for the previous year.

The main reasons why the number of mathematics and science graduates in service rose more slowly in 1960–61 than in the previous year were the ending of the National Service deferment arrangements for men graduates, and the increase in the number of young women graduates leaving for domestic reasons.
