§ 55. Mr. Ellis Smithasked the Minister of Transport if he will arrange for a study to be made of the future of all transport within an appropriate radius of 40 miles of Manchester to be carried out on the same basis as that for the Merseyside-Liverpool area, with a view to reducing congestion, giving the maximum public service, increasing transport facilities and revenue at the least cost of capital outlay and co-ordinating transport services at the minimum fares and costs.
§ Mr. MarplesI am studying the ways in which more comprehensive transport surveys might help with the complicated transport problems of the conurbations. Suggestions have already been put to me for a survey covering the Manchester area. I hope to form a view on them soon.
