§ Mr. Wallasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the Lerotholi Technical School in Basutoland was closed in 1960; and when it will be re-opened.
§ Mr. MaudlingThe school closed in May, 1960, when the students went on strike. A Commission under the presidency of Sir Walter Harragin, former Chief Justice of the High Commission Territories, inquired into the causes of the strike in August, 1960, and recommended various reforms. The school has now been re-opened under its new name, the Lerotholi Artisan Training Centre, which is considered more appropriate in view of its functions.
