HC Deb 19 April 1962 vol 658 c94W
29. Sir B. Janner

asked the Minister of Education whether he is aware of the general public anxiety about his failure to approve the proposals for school-building projects of the London County Council; if he will reconsider his decision; and if he will make a statement.

Sir D. Eccles

I have recently approved a school-building programme for the London County Council for the period 1963–64 amounting to over £1½ million which will all be spent on the improvement or replacement of existing schools. School population in the area is declining, and the authority therefore does not need schools, as do many other authorities, to provide for additional children.
