HC Deb 19 April 1962 vol 658 cc91-2W
Mr. J. H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will give figures showing the level of assistance provided to the less developed Colonial Territories from British and Russian sources, respectively, during the last three years, how much was Government aid; and how much was private investment.

Mr. Maudling

The figures for the U.K. are as follows:

Disbursements from U.K. Government funds in the form of bilateral grants and loans (figures for the financial year 1961–62 are not yet available: the figure given for 1961 is therefore for the calendar year):

1959–60 1960–61 1961
£58.7 m. £69.8 m. £94 m.
Estimated flow of private capital from the United Kingdom (only available on a calendar year basis).
1959 1960 1961
£33.0 m. £33.0 m. *
There has been no Soviet economic assistance.
* Total to all less developed countries was £150 m. but it is not yet possible to indicate how much of this was for Colonial territories
