HC Deb 19 April 1962 vol 658 c91W
3. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that the people evacuated from Tristan da Cunha desire to return to their island home; in view of their uncertainty about the position on the island, if he will now state the exact position; and if he will assess possibilities of an early return for these people.

Mr. Maudling

I believe that at the moment some would like to return to Tristan. I am awaiting the preliminary report of the Royal Society Expedition so that I may consider the position.
